The port of Algeciras is considered one of the 10 vital points of international traffic that, if closed, would increase the price of raw materials and manufactures or, directly, would never arrive, according to the newspaper Expansión in an information entitled “The 10 vital points of international trade”, signed by its economic editor Sergio Fernández.
“The Strait of Gibraltar” is the only enclave that borders the Spanish coast (it gives access to the port of Algeciras) and its importance lies in the fact that without the guarantee of its safety, the Suez Canal is meaningless. Not only is it the extension of the route between Asia and Europe, but it also divides Europe from Africa. That is why the balance in relations between the European Union, the United Kingdom, Morocco and Algeria is so important so that free transit is assured,” the report states.
Suez Canal, Panama Canal, Taiwan Strait, Bosphorus Strait, English Channel, Strait of Hormuz, Strait of Malacca, Cape Agulhas and Strait of Magellan are the remaining key enclaves for understanding global logistics.
